DISCERNMENT: The ability to see something that is not evident to the natural mind,to have a keen perception of another’s motives,to go beyond what is obvious.

There is a passage that describes the true meaning of discernment in scripture and it is found in 1 Corinthians 2:14. “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God:for they are foolishness unto him:neither can he know them,because they are spiritually discerned.

This verse let’s us know that the flesh mind cannot understand the mind of the Spirit.God is Spirit,and it is a Spirit of truth! “But the hour cometh,and now is,when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in Spirit and in truth:for the father seeketh such to worship him.God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in Spirit and in truth”.(John 4:23,24).

Discernment is one of the Gifts of the Spirit……It was promised to us by Jesus: “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away,the comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart,I will send him unto you”.

(John 16:7).

The following verse shows us that it is the Spirit of the Living God that dwells within the believer when they receive the Holy Spirit….It is a Spirit that protects one from any deception and motives of others.

It was the Spirit of discernment that allowed Peter to know he was being lied to about the money being held back by Ananias and Sapphira after selling a possession. “But a certain man named Anianias,with Sapphira his wife,sold a possession, And kept back part of the price,his wife also being privy to it,and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.But Peter said,Ananias,why hath satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy ghost,and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained,was it not thine own? and after it was sold,was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God”.(Acts 5:1-4).

Those who Love the Lord look for the day when satan will be bound for a thousand years and are able to reign with Christ! “And I saw thrones ,and they sat upon them,and Judgement was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God,and which had not worshipped the beast,neither his image,neither had received his mark  upon their foreheads,or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years”.

(Revelation 20:4).

These are the last days and it can be seen all around us. “This know also,that in the last days perilous times shall come.For men shall be lovers of their own selves,covetous,boasters,proud,blasphemers,disobedient to parents,unthankful,  unholy,Without natural affection,trucebreakers,false accusers,incontinent,fierce,despisers of those that are good,traitors,heady,highminded,lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of Godliness, but denying the power thereof:from such turn away”.(2 Timothy 3:1-5).

It is written that not all men have Faith. “Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful,and hast forgotten God that formed thee.And when the Lord saw it,he abhorred them,because of the provoking of his sons,and of his daughters.And he said,I will hide my face from them,I will see what their end shall be,for they are a very froward (perverse) generation,children in whom is no Faith”.(Deuteronomy 32:18-20).
