” Would We Have Believed? “

thCABAJMUM

Early in scripture there was a man who conducted his life so differently that many could not help but take notice. The people were not aware that this mans actions would one day effect the lives of all who dwelled on the earth! This man was Noah who had found favour with God, for he feared and revered him.

Would we of believed if we saw a man building a huge boat on dry land without a rain cloud in sight?

(Genesis 6:8,9,14,15).  But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.

When the sons of the prophets told Elisha that when they were building a place to dwell the ax head they were using fell into the water, and it troubled them more that it was not theirs but borrowed and Elisha cast a stick where it was and the ax floated to the surface.

Would we of seen and believed that something as heavy as an ax head floated?

(2 Kings 6:1-6). And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us. Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood. But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed. And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.

When the disciples were aboard ship and the winds picked up as they looked upon the sea and saw Jesus walking on the water, Peter who was no different than any one of us was told not to be afraid and to walk on the water as well.

Would we of had the faith to see our Lord out on the sea and step out as Peter did?

(Matthew 14:24-33). But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
