The saying what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger is so true, and those who are battling the good fight of faith understand it is uncomfortable and at times dangerous to stand for what is right if others are fighting for the wrong. There is a great sifting of the nations on the horizon as Gods people will be sifted yet He will not allow the least of them to fall! (Amos 9:8-9). Behold, the eyes of the Lord God are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the Lord. For, lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth.
Simon Peter had a taste of what it was like to be sifted and Jesus understood his wanting to follow Him so much and how others were treating him for wanting to do so. Jesus told Simon satan wanted to sift him as wheat, just as we His followers today endure ridicule, but Jesus prayed for Peter and knew after suffering for a time he would be able to strengthen his brethren. (Luke 22:31-34). And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death. And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
We learn in the book of Acts when the kings of the earth and rulers gathered together against the Lord that after the people prayed the place was shaken and the Holy Spirit filled the people to speak boldly the word of God. (Acts 4:26-33). The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ. For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done. And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
