” Our Avenger “

It happens to all of us that at one time or another an incident comes along and we are ready for the battle! But do we handle things in our own power? Or as a Christian do we know it is up to God who is our avenger. (2 Samuel 22:47-51).  The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation. It is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth down the people under me. And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: thou also hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man. Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name. He is the tower of salvation for his king: and sheweth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore.

We are told in scripture not to avenge ourselves and with good reason, for we are to be examples unto others and have total reliance on God who we know in His time is more than capable of dealing with those who trouble us. (Romans 12:17-21).  Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

The story of the unjust judge speaks like many people think is the right decision, because after the widow constantly wanted the judge to avenge her of her adversary he got fed up and did so to make her quit bothering him. Jesus answer gives a different perspective and gives us hope of how God feels when He hears the cry of His people! (Luke 18:1-8).  And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
