For some God is put on the back burner, but no matter how far one gets from Him His arms are always open if we truly repent of our sins and decide to serve Him with our whole heart!
Peter’s sermon moved the hearts of those listening and his message is for all of us today as well. He taught that if we repent and are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ we will receive the gift of the holy spirit(Acts 2:36-40).
To decide to serve the Lord is to have a personal relationship with the one who God sent to die in our place, for He is the propitiation for our sins(1 John 4:9-13).
For many the last week was filled with reveling and traditions that have been passed down through many generations. As christians we are instructed to be sober and watch for the return of our Lord, although no man knows the hour of His return how many over the last week would have been sober and not busy with reveling (merrymaking) would have seen the Lord had He returned?
Scripture teaches what may shock a lot of people about drunkenness and reveling and not only that but other things the world or as scripture says the flesh takes us on the wrong road and would keep us from inheriting Gods kingdom(Galatians 5:16-26). 16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
Anything that takes us from the message our Lord taught will take us from the eternal life which only abides in Christ. Colossians teaches us to beware if any try to steer us from our faith in Christ through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ(Colossians 2:8).
Jesus did not walk the way of the world only in the will of His Father should not His followers do the same?
