When we love what God loves and hate what He hates, we are a people who stand on the truth of His word. When Jesus prayed for those who follow Him, His words to the Father were that His people be sanctified by His word of truth (John 17:13-20) And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word. (John 8:31,32).
God wanted to ensure His people would be comforted and guided in His truth and therefore sent the Holy Spirit of truth to guide them through their life! (John 16:13-15) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
While many live by the truth of the world and it’s knowledge, we are instructed to be led by the truth and knowledge of Christ which sets us free! Truly God is a God of truth and mercy in which we serve by His spirit and truth (John 4:23,24),(2 Corinthians 3:17).
He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he (Deuteronomy 32:4).
Thank you for this. I have been thinking a lot about how the Church has seen an increase in moral relativism and specifically about the idea of both loving what God loves AND hating what God hates.
With so many churches teaching ONLY the God is love message it leaves out the full teaching of who God truly is. A God who loves and hates, and His people do the same as they hate evil and love the good.
