God has always forewarned people before great calamity was about to destroy them, but many did not heed his warnings and today is no different! Noah was a righteous man of God who was warned to build the ark that would contain all life needed to rejuvinate the earth after a massive flood, yet even though he was laughed to scorn he moved in fear and built the ark and he and his family were saved. (Genesis 6:5-22). Also before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah two angels were sent to Lot and was warned to flee the city of which God was about to destroy. (Genesis 19:1-28).

Jonah was sent to warn the Nin’-e-vites to repent or their city would soon be destroyed if the preaching of repentance was’nt heeded. To the surprise of Jonah they fasted and sat in ashes being clothed with sackcloth and God then decided to repent of what his plans were and did not destroy them after all. This angered Jonah, but God said: (Jonah 4:11) And should not I spare Nin’-e-veh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

Today we too are in need of repentance just as Nin’-e-veh was in their day as we watch leaders abusing the authority given them, so we remain at risk of the judgment of God to be unleashed upon us. To say God has no judgment in the earth is to not believe His word which clearly teaches us there is! The same whirlwinds of yesteryear are the same crossing the earth today (Nahum 1:3-7) The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth. The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein. Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him. The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

So are we heeding the warning signs of our day and age? our surroundings are not showing it! People are being shunned and even killed for their faith more than ever, and because alot is happening in other countries we turn a blind eye since it’s not in the states. Would God turn a blind eye from those in need? did not he tell the lawyer who asked the question “who is my neighbor?” that all are our neighbors, and so it is the good Samaritan in all of us which causes us to extend our hands to our fellow man! Jesus said their would be signs and wonders before his return and the days would be as the days of Noah and Jonah who preached repentance to save many! “And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, (Luke 11:29,30) This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet. For as Jonas was a sign unto the Nin’-e-vites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.

God’s people are placed at a time to warn not to look to wizards and those who have familiar spirits (mediums) as some will do, but to look to God himself for their help in the most turbulent of times that the earth will ever experience! (Isaiah 8:18-20) Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the lord of hosts, which dwelled in mount Zion. And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

God is ever merciful and His hope for man is to turn from his sin before it’s too late (2 Chronicles 7:14) If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
