God has a special place in His heart for the widow and the fatherless. The following passages show us the love and concern God has for those who suffer the loss of a loved one.(Deuteronomy 10:17-18)For the Lord your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward. He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment. (Psalm 68:5).
The Lord executes justice for the oppressed and gives food to the hungry, and is very concerned for both the fatherless and widow (Psalm 146:7-10).Which executeth judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry. The Lord looseth the prisoners:The Lord openeth the eyes of the blind: the Lord raiseth them that are bowed down: the Lord loveth the righteous:The Lord preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down. The Lord shall reign for ever, even thy God, O Zion, unto all generations. Praise ye the Lord.
We find in the following passages that God truly loves the widow and the fatherless, and anyone who causes them to cry unto Him will not go unpunished! In the world we live in today we have in place laws that can appoint someone to care for our loved one who has become a widow or fatherless, we pray may those in place know the lives entrusted to them is a chance to care for one of His children and that they are not just an income or job. Those with evil intent for the widow will soon see the hand of God and His wrath upon them, as scripture confirms it! Just as what goes around comes around is true (Obadiah 15), God will see to it that the household of those who oppress the widow and fatherless will see the same fate will happen to them. (Exodus 22:22-24) Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry; And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.
As christians God expects us to stand in the hedge for those who are being wronged and to seek His judgment in the earth. We are to plead for the widow and change our ways to do Gods will and not our own (Isaiah 1:16-18) Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Although we have laws in place for the protection of the widow and fatherless, there will be times when family are lied about, so wrong judgment of the situation ensues. As christians we must remember that even our Lords words were misconstrued. Jesus knew the harden heart’s of man and how they watched Him so that they could accuse Him of the good He was doing on the Sabbath for the man with the withered hand! He looked upon them with anger and was grieved just as He would be grieved today to see His children treated wrong when they are doing good!(Mark 3:1-6).
