The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly. (Proverbs 20:27).
The spirit of God can wash us of any sin for we are renewed by His presence. ( Psalm 51:6-9 ) Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
The Pharisees were famous for making their outward appearance seem pure and holy, but Jesus who even today would seem outspoken would teach any church of the importance of not leaving out His truthful message of faith, judgment, and mercy. In His eyes the Pharisees were no different than whited sepulchres and blind guides by teaching what they knew what the people wanted to hear yet leaving out what they needed to hear to save their soul. ( Matthew 23:23-28 ) Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
The inward man is what matters to God, and if we know in our heart we are doing what is right in the eyes of God then it does not matter if others speak as though we are doing wrong. A clear conscience is so important. ( 1 Peter 3:15-17 ) But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.
We go through so much in this life which in Gods eyes are only a moment, we know that even though our outward appearance will perish it is the spirit that dwells within us that is eternal! (2 Corinthians 4:15-18) For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
