We are to be happy to suffer for Christ’s sake…….What kind of word’s are these if we love and not hate? They are words given to us by Peter who realized just as Jesus suffered for doing nothing but good, it is so worth any suffering for our Lord only to enter eternity to serve him. “But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear. Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing”. (1 Peter 3:14-17).
The greatest message here is that Christ who is the light of the world shines brightly through all who believe and live his message. He was the first to rise from the dead and we too shall do the same by the promise he made us that whosoever believeth in him shall live and never die! It is the testimony of Paul that reassures us as he met the Lord on the road to Damascus that even though we are considered beside ourselves by others (crazy) yet the Spirit of God which the world does not understand is not hindered from delivering the message of God. “Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come: That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles. And as he thus spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad. But he said, I am not mad, most noble festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness. For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner”.(Acts 26:22-26).
There’s not one person who likes to suffer for any reason, but this is one time we can truly say if it’s good enough for my Lord and Saviour then it is good enough for me! “Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evildoer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound. Therefore I endure all things or the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. It is a faithful saying: for if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: If we suffer, we also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us. If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself”.(2 Timothy 2:8-13).
