The attitude of many is “I am just a sinner saved by grace” which makes the claim sin is inevitable in our life and we cannot be saved from sinning wholly. Those who have been genuinely redeemed know they cannot sin when the spirit of God lives within them. Those who have the mindset we cannot be freed completely from our sin will use the passage from Romans 7:17-25 that is teaching about the law of sin. When Paul says “ O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from this body of death? We find the answer in the previous chapter that we are crucified with Christ and baptized into His death, and one that is dead is freed from sin! (Romans 6:1-7) What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:2).
With so much sin in the world people do not even realize a whore (prostitute) is a deep ditch, and there are many souls taken by them. They play on the deep emotions of their prey convincing them they truly care for them. Proverbs 23:27,28 For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit. She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men. An adulteress woman read of in Proverbs 7 is also about such a trap to the souls of the predator, and the last verse 7:27 clearly teaches where such a way of life leads. “Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death”.
There are many passages in scripture that support sin cannot overpower us when we repent and are truly born again. The holy spirit that now dwells within us cannot sin! This is a matter of are we the children of God or of the devil (1 John 3:7-10) Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
There is a constant battle between the flesh and the spirit, and scripture teaches us when we are born from above we are not under the law of sin any more (Galatians 5:16-26) This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. (1 John 5:18).
We are crucified with Christ, and are hid in Him. Born of the spirit and no longer the flesh which causes us to remain in our sinful nature (Colossians 3:1-3) If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:12,13).
