It is written there are lords and gods many and people of years past and to this day still serve gods of their forefathers no questions asked. Some might ask how do you know if you’re serving the gods of the people or God Almighty? There are a couple of things that is a sure indicator. If there is a graven image or likeness of anything in heaven above or in the earth beneath. (Exodus 20:3-5). Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
Since we are told of God to have no graven or carved images of any kind we can learn also of another practice that is even popular in our day and age which is witchcraft, dealing with familiar spirits (Medium) or wizards all of which has been popularized in our land presently. A practice Manasseh chose to follow away from God, but who was later humbled in his affliction and did learn truly who God was. (2 Chronicles 33:1,2,5-7,12,13). Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem:But did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel. And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the Lord. And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.And he set a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever: And when he was in affliction, he besought the Lord his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, And prayed unto him: and he was intreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord he was God.
The Lord delivered HIS covenant and laws by Moses for HIS people Israel/Jacob, but unto our day and when he spoke to the people of the past they continued to serve their gods. (2 Kings 17:33,34,38-41). They feared the Lord, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence. Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the Lord, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the Lord commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel; And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods.But the Lord your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies. Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner. So these nations feared the Lord, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children’s children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.
In Gods final judgment he will shake the heavens and the earth, and all idols will be destroyed and man will then seek to hide himself in caves and want the rocks and mountains to fall on them from the fear of the Lord! (Isaiah 2:17-22) And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. And the idols he shall utterly abolish.And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth. In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats; To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth. Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?. … (Revelation 6:15-17).
Anything that takes us away from God who is Jealous for us (Exodus 34:14), will HE pluck up and destroy such a nation. (Jeremiah 12:16,17).
