In Gods eyes the riches of the world are just that, the riches of this world. True riches are the inheritance of the people who love and serve God, and will one day gain eternal life and an unending kingdom where Christ is King of Kings and Lord of lords, where moth and rust do not corrupt! (Matthew 6:19)Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal.
It is through spiritual eyes we see that our life here is a vapor, but the home of our spirit and all true riches and wealth are not material but found in the body of Christ as it is written the kingdom of God is for the poor (humble) in spirit! (Matthew 5:3) Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
There is truly nothing wrong when a person works hard and has many things which they enjoy and have earned, it is when a person seeks only the world’s wealth and neglects the tending to of their brethren (1 Timothy 6:17-19) Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
God warns us to not store up this world’s goods, but to buy the knowledge of God by renewing our minds through the letter he has written us in His word, and we are then able to enjoy the life we are given. (Revelation 3:17-18) Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out. (Proverbs 28:11).
Psalm 49 explains the best as to what happens to those who believe money and all it’s glory is worth fighting to get so much of, unfortunately it is not good! (Psalm 49:16-29) Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased; For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him. Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself. He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light. Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.
