I know. “Hate” is a very strong word. Surely, Christ did not mean for us to hate our family members, as in loathing them.
Here is exactly what He said: “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple“ (Luke 14: 26).

Thank you Julia for sharing this; only by the Holy Spirit can we understand “spiritual things” of Christ of God our Father (1 Corinthians 2:6-16); the Holy Spirit inspired Word says, “love the saints” “love the brethren” “hate lawlessness” under the activity of satan (Hebrews 1:9; 2 Thessalonians 2:7); hate what is evil (Romans 12:9); hate that the god of this world blinds minds (2 Corinthians 4:4); hate the old garment spotted by the flesh (Jude 23) but loving righteousness and praying that all with come to the righteousness of God found in Jesus and the finished work of His Cross; praying all will come and “yoke” “be joined as one” in Christ; therefore loving those who are dead to sin and alive to righteousness; hating deception, those deceived and deceivers going from bad to worse; hating imposters and servants of satan who disguise themselves as servants of righteousness (2 Timothy 3:13; 2 Corinthians 11:12-15) as we are not called to “yoke” with unbelievers or be mismated with the world, but have fellowship with equally-yoked true believers (2 Corinthians 6:14-18); yoked to Christ (Matthew 11:28-30), those dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus; God’s born again sons led by the Holy Spirit; Christ in us, having His Spirit, belonging to Christ and maturing in Christ as pure betrothed brides to our One Husband (2 Corinthians 11:2b); individual members of Christ (Ephesians 5:30), individual members of His Bride (1 Corinthians 12:27), of His one Body and one Spirit on earth AS in heaven; Christ’s Own as we make Him our own; His true churches, not conforming to this world who puts “blood family” above all else, when it is Jesus’ Blood that reconciles us with our First Love, our First Family, God our Father, Son, Holy Spirit, therefore praying for ALL to come to their right mind and spiritual senses and come out of this present “mystery babylon” and come to Christ and reconciled with our true brethren, true royal Family of God, those of the new heaven in Risen Jesus, far above all the old heavens, who are ambassadors on earth, doing Abba Father’s Will on earth AS in heaven, representing the new creation found in Risen Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17); stewarding the profound mysteries found in Christ (1 Corinthians 4:1; Ephesians 5:30-32; Colossians 1:25-28) in those who believe Jesus and believe that Jesus and the Father are one Eternal Father, Almighty God, Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace, never-ending Kingdom, ever increasing as more and more come to Jesus and receive His Spirit in them, His Kingdom of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit in them, because they believe the finished work of the Cross, and believe that in Christ we are a new creation of God, the old has passed away, seeing the new has come; already passed from death to life in Christ and Christ in us;
yes we “hate” the old nature and the former manner of life that has stolen and killed and destroyed so much in our biological families, and we don’t want any one else to be deceived, manipulated, controlled, believing the lies and falsehood of the enemy, by the “thief” who steals and kills and destroys, therefore we pray for ALL to come to repentance, come to Christ, receive Christ, know the Truth and the Truth will make those we “hate” free as the Truth made us free, to grow up in every way into the Head, in Christ! to God be the glory!
