A City And People Not Forsaken

It is by the gathering of the redeemed of the Lord that Zion the New Jerusalem will be established in this earth. It is written there are watchmen who will not hold their peace till the Praise of God fills the whole earth, as it is a city not forsaken as spiritually speaking God has married His land to Himself! (Isaiah 62:1,4,6,7,12). For Zion’s sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth. Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzibah, and thy land Beulah: for the Lord delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married. I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the Lord, keep not silence, And give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth. And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the Lord: and thou shalt be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken.

The city will be of a people who only follow righteousness, a people planted by the hand of God whose only sole purpose is to glorify God in a land that is their inheritance. (Isaiah 60:20-22). Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended. Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified. A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the Lord will hasten it in his time.

His people will not be forsaken for any reason, as those who are Blessed of Him will inherit the earth. (Psalm 37:22-25). For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand. I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. The Lord is our refuge in times of trouble, and He will not forsake those who seek only Him!

For those who truly love and know the Lord understand they are walking through the earth as a stranger and pilgrim, and will one day spend eternity in the city God has prepared for His own just as all who previously lived by faith before us! (Hebrews Chapter 11). (Hebrews 11:13-16) These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

But the Lord shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment. And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness. The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee. (Psalm 9:7-10).

  1. Revelation 21:2 Jerusalem is dressed as a bride. This verse always confuses me. I thought believers were the bride and Christ is the bridegroom, but this verse says the city is dressed as a bride. Are we a package deal; Jerusalem and the believers that will live there? I have a feeling I’m making something simple difficult. If you can help explain this to me Julia, I’m listening. Thank you!

    • Very good question Mary. Further down in Revelation we learn the answer in 21:9 which teaches us “The New Jerusalem” is the bride of Christ, the Lamb’s wife. The New Jerusalem is what will be made up of all believers who followed the Lamb, and you are correct in believing it is us for it is the saved of the Lord that will dwell in the New Jerusalem. (Revelation 21:24).

Stay the course Mary, for one day all we go through in this life will be worth the glory that awaits His people.
      Julia
