The Cost Of Our Soul

Our soul is of great price in the eyes of God, for scripture takes much time in explaining what it takes to save our soul from death and hell. When we are faced with an enemy we are instructed to not fear them, because although they may be able to kill our body they have no power to destroy our soul. (Matthew 10:28-31) And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows…….. (1 Corinthians 6:19,20)

The rich of this world are misguided in that they believe their wealth can save their soul, they buy and sell soul’s as though they have the power to do so. Scripture teaches us money cannot buy ones way into heaven, nor can it save anyone from death. Psalm 49 cannot be more clear on the mindset of the rich of this life, yet heaven is not their final resting place. (Psalm 49:16-20) Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased; For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him. Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself. He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light. Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.

The call on our life as a Christian is not to keep doing as we always have, but to tell of the saving grace of God and to become a servant of Christ. (1 Corinthians 7:20-24) Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called. Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather. For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord’s freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ’s servant. Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men. Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.

It is written we all are sinners and fall short of the glory of God, but in knowing the humanness of us all if we help in bringing a sinner back to Christ we shall save a soul from death! (James 5:19-20) Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

We are instructed to be content with what we have, for if we seek only money in this life we forfeit the treasure that could await us in heaven! (Matthew 16:24-26) Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
