Contending with matters

CONTEND- To strive with an opposition, rivalry, to struggle against, dispute, to fight for.

We all at one time or another have to contend with things or people we’d rather not, but with God on our side we know we are not alone in the battle. Those who do not like what is right will side with the wicked and their ways (Proverbs 28:4-6). They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them. Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the Lord understand all things. Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

When we completely allow God in every aspect of our lives it is then we see that even when our enemy comes against us God fights against those who fight against us. When we are in Christ we are never alone no matter what we face (Psalm 35:1-9) Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help. Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation. Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt. Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the Lord chase them. Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the Lord persecute them. For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul. Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall. And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in his salvation.

We can be sure if our life is lived for Christ there will most assuredly be an opposition that does not stand for His righteous ways, and we can find comfort in knowing we are told to not fear because God will remove those who contend with us! (Isaiah 41:10-13) Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish. Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought. For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man. Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies (Psalm 108:12,13).
