At one time or another we all go through a sorrowful time and question if God loves us so much why does he allow sorrowful times? If we received all we ever asked for we would become haughty and there would be no reason to seek God if we had all heart could wish. Job was surrounded by friends with good advice and even a wife who just told him to curse God and die…..But not Job for he knew that his Father in heaven had a better plan for him even if things seemed bleak! So many great losses Job suffered yet realized we are all born naked and without anything and would one day return to his maker. How many of us could lose everything and have the wisdom of Job to worship God throughout? (Job 1:20-22) Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. If we step back and look at our lives all we have is from the hand of God, and we are all here on borrowed time which God holds in His hands!
Our Lord is a man of sorrows, and this is something we can take comfort in knowing He truly does love and understands our grief! (Isaiah 53:3-6) He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Believe it or not sorrow is very needful in the plan of God because if we are sorry without regret of wrongdoing death may ensue, while if we are truly sorry and repentant as knowing we sinned against God then this sorrow is a lot of times a turning point in our life! When we are shown mercy by God we are more apt to be more merciful to our fellow man (2 Corinthians 7:10) For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
As we stand for the name of the one who has called us to do his will, may we not forget our brothers and sisters in Christ who are being persecuted and are in need of our prayer’s. God has not forgotten for one second any one of us in prisons whether it be a literal one or of circumstance! (James 5:16) Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow. (Ecclesiastes 1:18).
