Child sacrifice goes back to Biblical times and it was to the pagan god Baal. It was an abomination to the Lord God of Israel. The children of Israel often turn their backs on the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and went whoring after Baal. (2 Kings 10:18-28, Jer. 19:5, 23:27, Hos. 11:2) Burnt sacrifices of young children including infants is beleived to have been a common practice.
