The torn curtain… A lesson of the True Temple

And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom. And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God. (Mark 15:37-39).

At one time the place to worship God was when curtains were set up and the presence of God would then appear and fill the place with His glory, it was also known as the church in the wilderness. Moses was instructed of the plans to build the tabernacle for the ark of the covenant and the place of the mercy seat which would then be surrounded by curtains (Exodus Chaps 25-27).

Many generations later we see Jesus (Yahshua) fulfilling the true church He was destined to build through the holy spirit. The church in the wilderness and later the temple Solomon was instructed to build were only figures of the one true church Christ would later build through His shed blood by the sacrifice of Himself! (Hebrews 9:8,24-28)  For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:  Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;  For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

When Jesus (Yahshua) died and the veil (curtain) was torn in two to symbolize the separation of the former visible temple, for His spiritual temple was then to be built through the holy spirit. (Matthew 27:50-53) Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.  And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

Our Lord taught of the spiritual temple that would be built after His resurrection, yet in His day and even now in our present day many do not comprehend He was telling us we are the temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16,17) aside from a literal building! Oh how He was mocked and scorned of many for teaching the truth, and sadly even at the resurrection they were relentless by reminding Him that He would rebuild the temple in three days (Mark 15:29-32) And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, Save thyself, and come down from the cross. Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save. Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him. (Matthew 27:39-44).

Our Lord was the ultimate sacrifice for the sin of man. He has now entered the holiest place of all in heaven seated at the right hand of His Father who is also our Father (John 20:17). He is now our high priest and mediator between us and God! The old covenant God made with man so long ago has now become a shadow of the new covenant He has made with him. (Hebrews 10:15-25). 1 Peter 2:4-10.

Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? But he spake of the temple of his body. (John 2:19-21).
