Is God’s Way Black And White?

Some think there are gray areas as far as scripture reads, but is this the way God has His Holy Word written that it is not very clear what sin is or isn’t? His way is highly black and white when He clearly states no gray areas in his will for us as scripture tells of what He loves and also what He hates!

WHAT GOD LOVES Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. (1 John 4:7).

1.)Righteousness- “Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows”.(Psalm 45:7)

2.)Truth- “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure your hearts before him”.(1 John 3:18-19).

3.)Judgment- “For I the Lord love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the Lord hath blessed”.(Isaiah 61:8,9).

4.)Mercy- “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God”.(Micah 6:8).

5.)Forgiveness- “ To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. (2 Corinthians 2:10,11).

WHAT GOD HATES Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.

1.) 7 things – “These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren”. (Proverbs 6:16-19).

2.)One who imagines evil against their neighbor- “These are the things that ye shall do; speak ye every man the truth to his neighbor; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates: And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbor; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the Lord”.(Zechariah 8:16,17).

3.)Graven images of any kind- “Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear ye up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the Lord your God”.(Leviticus 26:1).

4.)Evil- “Seek good and not evil, that ye may live: and so the Lord, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken. Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph”.(Amos 5:15).

5.) Storing up riches & serving money-  No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. ( Luke 16:13).

For thou, LORD, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods. Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked(Psalm 97:9,10).

  1. Thank you for these great verses, Julia. God is a holy God and there is no black and white about that!

From an AI overview here is some good additional information:

“God is described as merciful throughout the Bible, with key verses highlighting His compassionate nature, as seen in Exodus 34:6-7 (‘The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious…’) and Psalm 103:8 (‘The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love’). Jesus taught believers to be merciful like God (Luke 6:36) and demonstrated it through parables, like the Prodigal Son, showing His readiness to forgive repentant sinners.

    • Thank you so much for for the additional information from scripture. Mercy and truth always brings one to the foot of the cross.

      Blessings in your walk Chris

    • Sorry Chris I think I misread your comment as you say “God is a holy God and there is no black and white about that!”

The black and white I was referring to is there are so many who learn of the love of God as though He hates nothing, and there is no discernment of what He stands for and what He loves and hates. His guidelines for our life teaches us as a Father who loves His children teaching us right and wrong.

      • I’m the one who is sorry, Julia. I probably put that wrong. I should have said, “There is no question that God is holy.”

You are so right to state that:
“…so many (who) learn of the love of God as though He hates nothing, and there is no discernment of what He stands for and what He loves and hates. His guidelines for our life teaches us as a Father who loves His children teaching us right and wrong.”

I guess both of our statements balance the subject to a degree.

        God’s blessings…

  2. Clear and grounded in Scripture. God’s Word doesn’t blur truth. He shows us plainly what He loves and what He hates, and calls us to walk in love, truth, mercy, and obedience. 🙏

    • Amen Willie! You have come to the knowledge of the truth, and see the word of God as He intended it to be…. Clear and concise for us to follow.
      Many Blessings Always
      Julia
