“God’s Favor”

1

To live a life of Blessing is having God showing you his favour. He has done this with his people throughout all the generations. “For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning”.(Psalm 30:5). We can read of all the Blessings God showers us with for being obedient to his word or the consequences if we do not follow him. (Deuteronomy 28).

Joseph received great favour from God after being rejected by his own brothers and sold into slavery. Joseph was loved above his brothers for he was the son born from his fathers old age. “Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours. And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him”.(Genesis 37:3,4).With such hatred the brothers took his coat of many colours and dipped it in animals blood then took the coat to their father and said he was killed. He must of thought God had taken his eye off of him for sure and was far from him. “And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him, And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house”.(Acts 7:9,10)…….(Genesis 39:21-23).
There was great favour shown to the virgin Mary that she would be the one God had chosen to bring forth the Saviour of the world, and we learn that this favour and blessing is on all those who fear God throughout all generations. “And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation”.(Luke 1:28,48-50).
Ruth received favor from Boaz after she made the decision to leave her homeland and to stay with her mother in law Naomi who had lost her husband and two son’s. Naomi had told her to return as her sister in law did to her gods, but Ruth would not leave and chose to stay with her mother in law. “And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law. And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if aught but death part thee and me.Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger? And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore. The Lord recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust. Then she said, Let me find favour in thy sight, my Lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken friendly unto thine handmaid, though I be not like unto one of thine handmaidens”.(Ruth 1:15-17……2:10-13).
Favour is such a blessing to the obedient of God and we learn that even if we ourselves would show favour to the wicked he would not notice and continue in his evil path. “Let favour be shewed to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the Lord. Lord, when thy hand is lifted up, they will not see: but they shall see, and be ashamed for their envy at the people; yea, the fire of thine enemies shall devour them. Lord, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works in us. O Lord our God, other lords beside thee have had dominion over us: but by thee only will we make mention of thy name”.(Isaiah 26:10-13).
God’s people are not the most popular in the world system, but they are not of the world and have joy others will not understand, for God’s ways lead to life and the way of the world without repentance leads to death. It is seen even more prevalent in these last days by the choices people are making for their lives. “Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour”.
(Proverbs 14:9).
