“Moses A Devout Man Of God”

Moses was best known for the bringing out of the Israelites from the bondage of egypt and the giving of the ten commandment’s. He was just three months old when sent down the Nile river, but from day one God was watching over him and it was his aunt that watched and made sure to see where he would end up and it was Pharoah’s daughter which found him. “And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months. And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink. And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him. And the daughter of Pharoah came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river’s side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it”.(Exodus 2:1-5).

The name Moses was given the child because he was drawn from the water. “And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharoah’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water”.(Exodus 2:10). We learn a very important lesson here for ourselves as God himself is the one who draws us out of many water’s of trouble in this life! “He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters”.(Psalm 18:16). In Christ’s own words he says: “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day”.     (John 6:44).

Moses had a sister Marian and a brother Aaron. When Moses was forty years old he returned to Egypt in the thought’s that he would be able by the hand of God guiding him he would deliver them from their bondage, but they did not believe him. “And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds. And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel. And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian: For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not”.(Acts 7:22-25).

Many do not know that at the age of forty he went on to have two sons and it would not be til Moses was eighty another forty years out would he climb the mountain and view the burning bush and the angel of the Lord would speak to him and then receive the ten commandments. This statement alone should strengthen our faith as we see God moves in a life at many ages! “Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons. And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and he drew near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came unto him, Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold. Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground”.(Acts29-33).(Exodus 2:1-6).

We learn from the story of Moses that he was a meek man called by a mighty God who went on to set many captives free, just as is the mission of every Christian today by the faith of a mighty Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ we carry his message that will free many!
