When I was growing up my mother would read me a story of a fictional animal named the push me pull me, it was an animal who had two feet going one way and the other side was identical with a long neck and head with feet going in the opposite direction. I enjoyed this story growing up as many times when faced with difficult decisions my mother would remind me of this story and say you cannot go in both directions at the same time. I bring this up now that I’m older and am a Christian how we are pulled in two different directions as the fight of affliction never leaves the life of the believer and how the old life will always want back in to control what you have now given to God!
It is the battle of the flesh and spirit. Paul writes of this conflict many face when stepping off the wide path onto the narrow! “For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin”.(Romans 7:15,20-22,24,25).
We are living in a time that the pleasures of sin is more important than seeking God and his guidance. We have read many times of the perils of those who have gone before us, and when we say to someone that we are apart from “I’m with you there in spirit” is actually biblical as the spirit of God can travel great distances and Paul spoke of such a thing! I no longer question if God can do the impossible for I have seen him work many times as he accomplishes his will through a vessel only set on doing his will! Paul spoke of such a thing when he spoke to those at La-od-i-ce’-a. “For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at La-od-i-ce’-a, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ”.(Colossians 2:1-5).
So the next time you hit a fork in the road of life remember that to follow the will of God is of greater reward than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season and jeopardise your soul! His way is always best no matter how unpopular those around you may make light of it! God Bless those who are striving for the kingdom Christ taught us of!
