There is nothing better than knowing something for sure as it gives one peace of mind. A surety with God is his covenant made with man as we see with Abraham when God caused a deep sleep to fall upon him and he was told his seed would be a stranger for four hundred years in a land that was not their’s. (Genesis 15:12-15). And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance. And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
What a glorious time it must have been for Peter when he knew for sure that it was the angel of the Lord sent to him and was then freed from prison. There is a huge lesson we learn of the power of prayer for after leaving prison he went to a home where there were many praying for him!!! (Acts 12:11-17). And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews. And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying. And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda. And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate. And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel. But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished. But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.
The saying there are two things we can count on and that is death and taxes, but what we need to do is realize this is a temporary place and as Christians we have the surety that the word of God is for all eternity! (Psalm 19:7-9). The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
