God wants none of His people to perish, but that they acknowledge their iniquity and turn from being the servants of sin unto the Holy will of God. (Ezekiel 18:26-28,31,32). When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord God: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.
Scripture speaks many times about the heart, and it is what allows us to have emotion for right and wrong doing. Our heart has the ability to make us feel condemned before God or with a clear conscience we have confidence towards God. A repentant heart turns to God for forgiveness and will do what is pleasing to the Lord. (1 John 3:18-24). My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
God is very merciful and even He at times has repented when dealing with man to not mar the covenant He has made for our good. (Psalm 106:43-48).
Here is a sobering thought…….. Did you know that we all give account for every idle word spoken on the day of judgment? (Matthew 12:35-37). What is sad is without repenting a soul will not inherit the kingdom of God, and scripture tells us there will still be some who will not repent even in the very end! (Revelation 9:20-21) And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts……. (Revelation 22:14-15).
2 Peter 3:9
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
