The Tree

Tree’s are a symbol of God’s people and he show’s this beautifully in the Psalms as referring to the Blessed person who chooses his way of life. “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the councel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper”.(Psalm 1:1-3).

We find the tree of good and evil in the very beginning in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve, but did you know that the Tree of Life is not just mentioned in Revelation 22:2 it was also in the Garden! “And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil”.(Genesis 2:8-9).

God shows his Love for us in the symbol of the Grafted Tree. Jesus is known as the firstfruit, because he was raised from the dead and therefore allowing others who die in Faith to him be risen as well and not die in our sins. “And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. Then they also which are fallen asleep (Died) in Christ are perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept (Died)”.(1 Corinthians 15:17-20). “For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again”.(Romans 11:16,22,23).

We are as tree’s planted in the house of God! If anyone get’s the chance to smell the scent of the Cedar of Lebanon it is the most beautiful scent there is,even more calming than Lavender that people use for stress relief. “The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like the cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; To shew that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him”.(Psalm 92:12-15).

We are told that if we put our trust in man more than God he is cursed, and as a heath (shrub) in the desert, but the man who puts his trust in God will not suffer drought and will be fruitful. “Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord. For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited. Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit”.(Jeremiah 17:5-8).

There is the most unforgettable tree of them all which stands out in scripture and that is the symbol of salvation offered to many, it is the tree our Lord and saviour hung on to put away all the sins which we deserve the punishment for and by his stripes we were healed! “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised up jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him”.(Acts 5:29-32).
