A MATTER OF FAITH
In our day and age people are wondering what would Jesus do had covid 19 been in His day? Since there is nothing new under the sun and history we know does repeat itself Jesus had plagues and diseases and yes even that which was contagious such as leprosy in His day? Did He walk the streets with a mask on? Certainly not! Did He practice social distancing? Of course He didn’t,but what He did do was show an example which we as christians can learn to apply to our day!
Keeping in mind there were diseases and that which was contagious in His day as in ours we find Him spitting on the ground to make clay to apply to the eyes of a blind man WHAT! Yes He did and did not walk in fear (John 9:1-7)1 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. 2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? 3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. 4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. 6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, 7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
Another time we see Him put His fingers into the ears of one who was deaf and then spit and put His finger on the mans tongue because he had a speech impediment WHAT! Yes He did and did not walk in fear (Mark 7:31-37) 31 And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis. 32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him. 33 And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue; 4 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. 35 And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. 36 And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it; 37 And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
By this time you are probably thinking well that was Jesus, but as His followers did not He tell us we have not been given the spirit of fear?(2 Timothy 1:7) Do we not dwell in God and therefore perfect love casts out all fear? Have we not been told we are as He is in this world?! (1 John 4:15-19) 15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. 16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. 19 We love him, because he first loved us.
Fear is not something God wants His people to be preoccupied with in the midst of covid or any other tragic event, even from the very beginning we see God telling Abraham not to fear (Genesis 15:1). If we bear the name christian then when exactly does OUR FAITH and not fear kick in? Just as the ten commandments are still in place for our day, so is the great commission we are called to perform,as we shine as lights in a dark world! Mask or no mask we are covered by the blood of Christ! (Mark 16:15-20).
God is our refuge in times of trouble. PSALM 91
