Covid 19 and Jesus

A MATTER OF FAITH

In our day and age people are wondering what would Jesus do had covid 19 been in His day? Since there is nothing new under the sun and history we know does repeat itself Jesus had plagues and diseases and yes even that which was contagious such as leprosy in His day? Did He walk the streets with a mask on? Certainly not! Did He practice social distancing? Of course He didn’t,but what He did do was show an example which we as christians can learn to apply to our day!

Keeping in mind there were diseases and that which was contagious in His day as in ours we find Him spitting on the ground to make clay to apply to the eyes of a blind man WHAT! Yes He did and did not walk in fear (John 9:1-7)1 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. 2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? 3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. 4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. 6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, 7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

Another time we see Him put His fingers into the ears of one who was deaf and then spit and put His finger on the mans tongue because he had a speech impediment WHAT! Yes He did and did not walk in fear (Mark 7:31-37) 31 And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis. 32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him. 33 And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue; 4 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. 35 And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. 36 And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it; 37 And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

By this time you are probably thinking well that was Jesus, but as His followers did not He tell us we have not been given the spirit of fear?(2 Timothy 1:7) Do we not dwell in God and therefore perfect love casts out all fear? Have we not been told we are as He is in this world?! (1 John 4:15-19) 15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. 16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. 19 We love him, because he first loved us.

Fear is not something God wants His people to be preoccupied with in the midst of covid or any other tragic event, even from the very beginning we see God telling Abraham not to fear (Genesis 15:1). If we bear the name christian then when exactly does OUR FAITH and not fear kick in? Just as the ten commandments are still in place for our day, so is the great commission we are called to perform,as we shine as lights in a dark world! Mask or no mask we are covered by the blood of Christ! (Mark 16:15-20).

God is our refuge in times of trouble. PSALM 91

  1. Dear Julia,
Thank The LORD for TRUTH from His+ WORD.
Thank The LORD for TRUTH from His+ Example.
Thank The LORD for TRUTH in the SPIRIT.

The COVID lockdowns were about CONTROL, not sickness. The CDC’s own stats show that !

WOE to the man who does NOT ADHERE to the TRUTH in CHRIST JESUS !

A good and timely post, well-needed as the senseless lockdowns are on the rise.

May The LORD protect His+ people. If The LORD doesn’t keep us safe , then all the masks in the world will not keep us safe !

    Psalm 127:1
Except THE LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except THE LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

When are we EVER going to learn NOT to go with the mind-set of the public ? Of the system ? Of the lie-bearers and fear-mongers ?

May The LORD show forth His+ Mighty arm of protection to all those who TRUST IN HIM+.

    A good post, dear friend.

    In JESUS
    Who+ alone is LIFE
both here and beyond the grave . . .

    • Sister Judith……Your exactly right if the Lord cannot keep us safe then all the masks in the world will not either. The spirit of fear from the enemy of our soul works overtime and this virus is a field day for him to make people doubt and fear. (John 10:10). Thank you for this comment. God Bless and keep you always strong in Him!

  2. In terms of practical love then, how do people respond as you approach them without a mask? Do they feel loved and respected? In Jesus’ walk with the leper and and the blind, they felt love when approached by Jesus. The were rejected by society. COVID-19 patients are by no means rejected from society. Today, however, what you are proposing is simply a wrong application. If others react to your “love” with a feeling of being disrespected, then maybe it isn’t love at all. If a mask makes people feel loved and respected, then a mask is the way to love the least of these and to love our Lord Jesus. Go ahead and delete this comment if you will, but this is not the same as Jesus and the lepers. God is sovereign over everything, yes, but even so COVID-19 rages on. We will all have to make an account for our actions. We will all have to account for whether our actions were truly rooted in love. I climb with a rope and harness, God is sovereign to protect, but I dare not test God with my recklessness, lest I be disciplined in my error.

    • This post is written because so many people are living in fear today! They are looking for hope to carry on in the midst of a raging storm called Covid 19, what this post is merely saying is even in Jesus day just as in ours there were situations where only our faith can get us through. Of course a mask is needed in this day and age,but our FOCUS IS ON CHRIST!!! When I said mask or no mask it was in light of the importance that as a christian we are to NOT FEAR because of the spirit that dwells within the believer. I am sorry you have missed the message of not to fear. This writing is a reminder of the following passage of when the storm is raging in our life AS COVID 19 is today to stay focused on Jesus the one who calms the storms we face.
Jesus Calms a Storm (Matthew 8:23-27).
23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. 24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. 25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. 26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. 27 But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him! Thank you for your comment. God Bless you.

      • Thank you for clarifying! I totally agree with the way you put it here. That’s a really great parable of how Jesus responds in the face of what we naturally fear. I was just trying to express that I don’t want us and sons and daughters of the living God to misrepresent Him, but I agree that fear has no place. I agree, “only our faith can get us through”. Thank you for your response as well! I pray He blesses you as well!
