From the very beginning God saw men’s heart’s were set on wickedness and although He destroyed the earth with the exception of Job and his family, He knew the world needed a Saviour! Our Lord who is the light of the world was long foretold of before His birth (Isaiah 9:2) 2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
It is this great light we see throughout scripture. Everything and everyone who is of the Lord is as a light in the world. We see this great light at the tomb of our Lord with the angel which came to Mary to announce the Lord she was seeking had risen! (Matthew 28:2-7) 2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. 3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: 4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. 5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. 6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
We too who are in Christ are known as the children of light and when we let our light’s shine before men the Lord resides in the world. We are a light that shines in the darkness (Philippians 2:13-15)
The day will come when the moon will no longer shine in the night ,nor will there be an need for the sun by day, but the light of the Lord will be an everlasting light twenty four seven for all eternity, for there is no darkness in Him and we will truly see the brightness of His countenance forever! (Revelation 21:23-27) 23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. 24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. 25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. 26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it. 27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
