When we are young we look to our parents for our comfort, and if we live in a bad situation then our comfort may be found in another family member or sadly enough in drugs and alcohol. Well no matter what situation we come from there is hope when we find and take comfort in God and the Lord. Our lives and actions are temporary while our soul has the chance to live for all eternity if given to and lived for the one who will not leave us comfortless! Here is what Christ told his disciples:”I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him” (John 14:18-21).
There is great comfort found in the words of the psalms, they are written by those who have gone through similar if not the exact same things we as Christians face as we live today. “Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope. This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me. The proud have had me greatly in derision: yet have I not declined from thy law. I remembered thy judgements of old, O Lord; and have comforted myself. Horror hath taken hold upon me because of the wicked that forsake thy law. Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage” (Psalm 119:49-54).
It is a natural emotion for anyone wanting to find comfort or peace in a situation, we find emotions are fleeting and the power of God’s comfort is everlasting. As a Christian it is soon learned we can endure just as Christ did for our strength comes from the Father in heaven just as his did. Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For all the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation”.(2 Corinthians 1:3-6).
We find in scripture how Christ cared for and loved people and did not even please himself, his main concern was to do his Fathers will that worked through him all of his life. We find hope and comfort when we know if we love one another as Christs example is to us we fare better through life then to think only of ourselves which brings a snare to our soul. “We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let every one of us please his neighbor for his good to edification. For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. Not the God os patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another to Christ Jesus”.(Romans 15:1-5).
