Even when Jesus was on his way to the cross and after much teaching the people still did not recognize who it was that walked among them. The very Son of God was handed over in place of Barabbas who was a robber, but when the people cried out not to let Jesus go then a Pilate thought it was more important to be Caesars friend than to release an innocent man!!!! (John 19:10-16). Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee? Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin. And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar’s friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar. When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha. And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King! But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.
When we through spiritual adoption become the sons and daughters of Christ the world does not recognize the operation of God which has taken place within the hidden man of the heart. We are different from what the world deems important. (1 John 3:1) Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.(Romans 14:16).
There was a time when the sacrifice of animals was sprinkled upon the altar for the remission of sins, but the sacrificial lamb that is our Lord and Saviour was sent to sprinkle many nations and who was so marred and unrecognized of the true love that God worked through him! (Isaiah 52:13-15) Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high. As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.
Those who truly love and follow the Lord do not stand out to the world, but in the eyes of God they are precious in His sight. Ecclesiastes teaches of a poor man who was wise, yet was not even remember although he delivered a city by his profound wisdom. The world does not recognize the eternal spirit which lives in the believer, but the brethren of Christ know them. ( Ecclesiastes 9:14-18) There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it: Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man. Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard. The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools. Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.
Isaiah chapter 53 tells of the work our Saviour came to accomplish and did!
