When we think of the word sword what comes to mind is a long knife which goes into a sheath, but the word of God is known as a weapon for His people that is part of the gospel armor offered for a Christian to be armed with. (Ephesians 6:17-18). The war we are called to here is of a spiritual nature, did you know the wicked are known as a sword from the Lord and as a lion ever seeking to destroy any good of the just? (Psalm 17:8-13).Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings, From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about. They are inclosed in their own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly. They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth; Like as a lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places. Arise, O Lord, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword.
When we keep the word of God within us it is the best discerner of any situation we may enter, for the word is powerful in all truth and has the ability to know the intent of another’s heart. (Hebrews 4:12,13) For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
As a Christian we know the importance of doing what is right, and the day will come when those who choose otherwise will be removed, for when Christ returns with the sword of His mouth He will fight against the wicked! (Isaiah 11:4,5) But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins. (Revelation 2:16,17).
It is so hard to believe that the time will come when there will be people who are given the chance to repent and receive salvation through the truth that they will still remain unrepentive. This strong wickedness will be dealt with by the Lord Himself and consume such a people with the Spirit of His mouth! (2 Thessalonians 2:8-12).
Some say words cut like a knife, and scripture confirms this to be true. It is those who love and fear God who will see that it is He who removes our enemies from before us, and the ways of the wicked return upon their own heads (Psalm 64:1-9) To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy. Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity: Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words: That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not. They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them? They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep. But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded. So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away. And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing.
Apart from Him and His living Sword we are not able to discern between “soul and spirit”. How we need to be thankful for its cutting asunder within our own lives to free us to live in Him.
Blessings

So true that it is not us,but the spirit of the living God within us are we able to discern between “soul and spirit. Apart from Him we can do nothing! I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. (John 15:5). He is our All in All. Blessing my Friend.
