If we cup our hand to draw up water into it, it is so tiny compared to the hand of God whose hand has measured the waters of the earth in the hollow of His hand. The one true God of the whole earth has weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance. If we look up at the vastness of a clear starry night, God who is infinite in knowledge has named every single one of them, and that is how big our one true God is! (Isaiah 40:10-14) Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him. He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance? Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him? With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?
(Psalm 147:4,5). He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.
When we see pictures taken of the earth by satellite it is plain to see why scripture says we are as small as dust, after all we were formed from the dust in the first place and with our passing we return to the ground. (Genesis 2:7 & 3:19) And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul…….. In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. (Psalm 103:14-19).
It is easy to get caught up with so many things this life has to offer, but we need to remember this earth is very small compared to the eternal place that our Lord has prepared and will one day come again to receive us into, as He is the way, the truth, and the life. (John 14:1-6) Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
We are as grasshoppers in the eyes of God who sits on the circle of the earth. How big our one true God is in comparison to the world we pass through to enter our eternal home of love, joy, and peace. (Isaiah 40:21-31). Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity. Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble. To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth. Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the Lord, and my judgment is passed over from my God? Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
