Many claim the name Christian, but what does it mean when Jesus said to take up our cross daily and follow Him? As a true soldier of Christ are we really willing to lose our life to save it? (Luke 9:23-29). And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels. But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God. And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.
Paul gives a good analogy of what a servant of Christ endures as he tells of the many perilous things he went through. Whenever I read these passages it always reminds me of what my mother would say and I quote: “You would be surprised all the things a person can go through and still live”. Paul was the perfect example of Christs servant, and to even consider half of what he endured seems like too much. (2 Corinthians 11:23-31). Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not? If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities. The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is blessed for evermore, knoweth that I lie not.
No one would want to be appointed unto death for any reason yet we who follow Christ are as sheep led to the slaughter. (Psalm 44:20-22). It was for our transgressions was our Lord stricken, and out of our love for the one who died for us do we realize nothing can separate us from Him whether it be persecution or peril! (Romans 8:34-39). Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
So good… BT
Amen! Like Paul said to the Corinthians, “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” (1-15:55) Amen! LOLGB+
