Even though through the year’s I have heard people say we are all God’s children, it really needs to be said differently as not all people are God’s children by choice. Yes God created all people, but are they doing His will as asked? Do all people made live for Christ? God Himself said Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated! Does this mean God is unrighteous? (Romans 9:13-16,18) As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.
As christians we are the children of light, for Christ is known as the light of the world and we abide in Him and He in us. (1 John 2:9-11) He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
Our Father in heaven is a just and righteous God and will not at all retain love for wickedness or evil, anyone who claims to be a child of God and chooses acts of disobedience is deceived. (Colossians 3:5-9) Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry. For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds.
To say that we are all God’s children is to say there is unrighteousness in God along with every other evil work man needs to repent of! Heaven then would be filled with all the same trials we endured here on earth and we would have to ask the question what is the purpose of repentance then? and what was the meaning of Christ hanging on the cross for? God clearly tells us we are not all His children, so let’s stop believing the lie out there! (1 John 3:7-10) Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
Our Lord clearly explained the difference of what a child of God looks like compared to a child of the devil when he explained it to the scribes and Pharisees, who were confident their Father was God (John 8:39-47) They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham. But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
