If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14).
The children of the world look down on those who are of a humble character, for they do not fit into the mold the world has set which is to gain as much this worlds good, and be exalted into a false fame in the eyes of others (Matthew 16:26) For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Paul was kept abased and humbled by God when he was given many visions and a thorn in his flesh, only to learn that God’s strength is made perfect in weakness. (2 Corinthians 12:7-9) And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ rest upon me.
People do not realize that Moses who had many mighty works by the hand of God worked through him was a very meek and humble man. He was viewed as a strong leader, yet was of low estate (Numbers 12:2,3,7-9) And the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth. When the Lord was angry for the statement Aaron and miriam made that does the Lord only speak through Moses? That the Lord let them know, My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house. With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the Lord shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses. And the anger of the lord was kindled against them; and he departed.
There is a saying that it’s the squeaky wheel that gets the oil, but God exalts the lowly while the proud are abased (James 4:5,6) Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, the spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
Truly the Lord is speaking clearly – Humility is the key and the fruit to a life of seeing and being used of Him.
A very good and timely word!
