The Lord Our Shield

The Lord is so many things to us and His protection is a shield around our life! He is our deliverer from death and we wait upon Him for our help. (Psalm 33:18-20).  Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waiteth for the Lord: he is our help and our shield.

Not one good thing is held from those who put their complete trust in the Lord God. He is always merciful and is ever present in the time of trouble to shield us. (Psalm 84:9-12).  Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed. For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

God is a place of refuge we can find shelter in, and we can trust under the wings of the Almighty. Our Lord said of Jerusalem how they would kill the prophets that were sent to them, but that He would have gathered their children as a hen would take her brood under her wings yet they would not. It still holds true today of the only true shelter any of us have yet is the one people will flee from the only hope they have (Luke 13:34-35) O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. (Psalm 91:1-4)
