When God gave Moses the ten commandments we can see how pertinent it was to Him that the first commandment be that we should have no other gods before Him, and to make no graven images (statue)as something we pray to or worship! The one true God of heaven and earth is not made of wood or stone, He is a living spirit which dwells within the believer! (Exodus 20:1-7). And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

It is written no man has seen God at any time, so who is the one that cannot be seen, yet so many put their faith in? We first learn of who God is early in scripture that He is a spirit who moved upon the face of the waters when the earth was yet without form(Genesis 1:1-2) In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

It was by Gods spirit that Joseph was given knowledge to interpret a dream Phar’-aoh had of an impending 7 years that would be plenteous followed by 7 years of famine. When Phar’-aoh knew Joseph had the spirit of the living God within him he made sure to set him over the land of Egypt, and the land would then be guided by God (Genesis 41:38).

As Christians we know faith is believing in the unseen, yet knowing by the spirit of God the miraculous is in the earth! Many generations have come and gone, and we learn in Hebrews chapter 11 of the many lives who by faith lived their lives and were moved by the spirit of the living God!(Hebrews 11). To this day God is expects His people to worship Him in spirit and truth! (John 4:23-24) But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

So who is God? He is our shield and buckler, our rock and redeemer. He is the eternal omnipresent spirit in the earth that gives life and is our salvation! (Isaiah 45:18-22) For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord; and there is none else. I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the Lord speak righteousness, I declare things that are right. Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save. Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the Lord? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
