When we look at the meaning of what burden means we see just how much God loves us by sending His only begotten Son to be our burden bearer! ( Isaiah 53:4-6 ) Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Burden- Something oppressive or worrisome, a heavy load to carry, duty of responsibility, troublesome, overwhelming.
We are instructed by our Lord to learn of Him and by doing so we will find rest for our souls. How many miss out on the comfort they need by not learning of the only one who can give our soul’s rest in the midst of turmoil! ( Matthew 11:28-30 ) Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.
May we learn to trust the one who bore all our sins and nailed all the burdens of this life to the cross! (Psalm 55:22) Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
