In the context of this lesson, spiritism encompasses activities such as: Sorcery: The supposed art of controlling events or effects etc., by the power of evil spirits.

Unfortunately, I think we will being seeing more of this sort of thing as time passes. I hope I am very wrong.
Although it is highly unfortunate Chris scripture teaches as we near the time of Christs return people will live far from the righteousness of God. (2 Timothy 3:1-7).
