Why isn’t the word Christmas in the bible since so many celebrate it as gospel truth?

At this time of year people are busy celebrating Christmas, as so many do not question why they do what they do and where it all originated. When we celebrate our birthday we know the date of our birth, how is it Christmas is held on a date someone picked out. Did our Lord forget to tell us in His word?

Our Lord died over two thousand years ago, yet what so many people are celebrating as gospel truth today did not even come into being until 366 AD. Why would Christ die and then 366 years later people begin to celebrate His birth????? Should not Christmas to of been celebrated immediately after the resurrection????? There is no scripture to support Jesus celebrated His birthday as He was growing up, and there is surely no scripture of Him teaching us to put up a tree and decorate it to honor Him therefore Christmas remains a tradition of men.

When we are following the truth of Gods word shouldn’t what we do be a reflection of what we read in scripture? Our Lord never hesitated to do His Fathers will as do His follower’s today. Our Lord called the Pharisees and Scribes hypocrites for claiming to be doing Gods commandment’s while they held to their tradition’s that were not of God. So many generation’s have come and gone, yet men’s heart’s have not changed as tradition’s still take preeminence to the truth of the word (Mark 7:1-9) (Mark 7:6-9) He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

The bible is our instruction book for life and our Lord clearly made sure to teach what we are to do and not do if we follow Him. At this time of year from Oct -December the superficial spirit is in full force called “The Christmas spirit or Holiday spirit. Only the Holy Spirit is given in scripture and is a Spirit of truth given when one genuinely repents (Acts 2:38) Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

It is easy to see where the many attributes of Christmas have come from. The wise men brought gift’s to the Christ child hense it is a season of giving gift’s, the baby Jesus was born in a manger so the Nativity scene has materialized, The Christmas tree represents everlasting life as an evergreen.

For those who are truly seeking the truth and are wondering if the Christmas tree is mentioned in the bible, we find it is a practice of the heathen which we are instructed not to learn of their ways and customs (Jeremiah 10:1-5) Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

There is a sharp contrast of the worlds temporary Christmas spirit verses those who do His will and live by the spirit of truth given them (John 14:17) Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:23,24).

  3. This is a strong reminder to focus on God’s Word and not man-made traditions. True worship is about spirit and truth, not rituals or customs invented later. Seeking Him sincerely matters more than celebrating the holiday.

    • Spot on Willie! We are to focus on the truth of the word as the world is busy following all their eyes can see. True faith is believing in what is not seen. (Hebrews 11:1).

      Blessings Today and Always
