The Mustard Seed Parable

The parable of the mustard seed has been my favorite for years as I used to raise mustard greens spring and fall. The seeds are much smaller than a BB. There are by count approximately 8,000 seeds per ounce. That’s more than dollars per ounce of pure gold. I have had some (planted in the fall, winter over and run up in the spring after several pickings) grow as high as 6 feet tall with many branches and lots of yellow flowers, which I wouldn’t bush-hog down until the bees were finished with them.

Friend, do not despise the day of small things!

Mark 4:30-32 And he said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it?  31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth,  32 yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.”
