We are all born into the world and soon learn of it’s ways. We are flesh and blood at start and we all have free will for however we want to live our lives. Sounds simple right? Well at one point or another we realize we do not live forever here on this earth and by the way we live will determine if heaven or hell will be the destiny of our soul. It is written: And it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the Judgement”.(Hebrews 9:27).
Flesh and blood cannot inherit heaven therefore we need to learn how does one be born of the Spirit and not be a servant to the flesh? Just as Nickodemus asked Jesus: “How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit”.(John 3:4-8).
By this previous verse we are told and it is confirmed when we hear people say I was born again back in such and such date…… The difference this individual is speaking of is at a time in their life when they made the conscience decision to not live in the sinful (Fleshly) nature and turn their life around that is pleasing to God. For each wars against the other within us! “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law” (Galatians 5:16-18).
The ways of the flesh are clearly listed as we are told of these acts, if we continue in them we are unable to inherit heaven. “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God”.
(Galatians 5:19-21).God does not leave us in the dark to save our soul’s, it is through repentance and turning aside from all that wars against the Spirit that will forfeit our life away from God for all eternity. But we will inherit heaven if we choose to repent and follow Christ and his way.
It is written we are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God and it is then we go on a guilt trip thinking who then can be saved and worthy of living a righteous and just life? WE ARE!, for we are not left comfortless, But Jesus has said himself he will send the comforter which is the Holy Spirit and it is then by accepting this gift of God by the person of Christ we can live a life worthy of entering heaven. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another”.(Galatians 5:22-26).
Is there really a guarantee if we turn from living in the flesh to Christ we will inherit heaven? YES! “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death”.(Romans 8:1,2). This Spiritual change in the life of the Believer is a guarantee that our soul will not see death , But gain eternal life by the Holy Spirit promised to us! We are no longer of the world that is perishing, but fellow citizens and adopted into the family of God…………”For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of Adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God”.(Romans 8:14-16).
