What a beautiful word eternity is to the christian that awaits a time that will have no end! Oh how thankful a believer is that although evil and strife thrive here in our present world, one day will be a distant memory and we will enjoy an eternity of peace, love, and joy unspeakable with the Saviour who redeemed our soul! It is at times difficult to imagine sheer joy unending, but that is exactly what eternity with God is and this was promised to us even before the world began. “Paul a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began”.(Titus 1:1,2).
Christ has become the tabernacle that is made without hands so we the people who serve him out of obedience are able to gain eternal life and redemption he bought for us. We have an eternal inheritance waiting, and to fret over this life that is temporary in not seeing the big picture that is of far more importance as eternity with Christ is a reward for being a faithful servant. The evil acts of others we endure now is worth eternity where they will have no place! “But Christ being come a high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. (Hebrews 9:11). “For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace”.(Psalm 37:9-11).
On the cross Jesus thanked his Father for those who were given to him and that they were given eternal life! We see a revealing in the following passage that many miss and that is Jesus was with God before even the world was made……”These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was”.(John 17:1-5).
Daniel foretold of Jesus eternal kingdom he would one day rule for all eternity. “I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed”.(Daniel 7:13,14).
