Jesus was sent by God the Father and we learn of him long before he ever was born! The foretelling of the Messiah was of the miraculous as he would be born of a virgin and would be God with us (Emmanuel) upon the earth. What a kind and loving God to walk among his people! “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel”.(Isaiah 7:14).
We see the promise of our Lord and Saviour long before he was even born and by reading of his conception, birth, ministry, death, and resurrection it allows us to have hope in the promises of God. Jesus was fortold of as Peter spoke that he was born of the lineage of David. “For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne”.(Acts 2:25-30).
There are so many promises given for the Christ child before he even came to us of what he would stand for and become after his death! “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this”.(Isaiah 9:6,7).
The message was so powerful when Peter spoke it many asked what should they do next? “Therefore let all he house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call”.(Acts 2:36-39).
