“The Anchor”

Christ is the author and finisher of our faith, and by His steadfastness of never changing His way this is an anchor in the life of the Believer. Many friends and family members of the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ have gone before us after being wonderful witnesses to the truth! (Hebrews 12:1,2) Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

What a great faith Peter showed when he was asked to walk across the water to Jesus, but after doubt entered his mind he started to sink! This lesson shows us that no matter what storm is in our life Jesus can calm it as we read how the waters were unstable around him, yet calmed immediately after he was asked where was his faith? (Matthew 14:24-32) But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship,he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid: and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

Some people go through life calling on God in the most dire of times, while others put Him first before them and have the comfort of knowing He will never leave nor forsake them. While some have a ship wrecked faith throughout their lives til they realize hope is only renewed when they come to trust in the sure foundation placed since the world began, and whose rock is Christ! (Isaiah 28:16,17) Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
