“Honor Of God”

c2v3b5

God wants us to do well in this life and it becomes a dishonor to him if one becomes puffed up and haughty as though their own hand has earned their livelihood. “If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, thou art my confidence; If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much; If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness; And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand: This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above”.(Job 31:24-28).

We see a lot in hollywood as people come into money very easily in an amount unheard of for the usual person with a nine to five job therefore the homeless remain among us just as Jesus said we will always have the poor among us. We all know the saying you can’t take it with you and scripture does confirm it. “Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased; For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away; his glory shall not descend after him”.(Psalm 49:16,17).

Jesus even said he did not receive honor of man, but only the honor which came from his Father in Heaven. “I receive not honour from men. But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? (John 5:41-44).

There is absolutely nothing wrong with working and providing for one’s family, we are told to be a cheerful giver and God loves when we help one another. Time and chance happens to each and every one of us! “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet brad to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all”.(Ecclesiastes 9:10,11).
