This earth will one day perish, but will be renewed by God and those who lived for Christ will be it’s inhabitant’s! (2 Peter 3:10-13). But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
It is written the meek shall inherit the earth, while many picture heaven as a far away place up in the sky this is not biblical as we pray “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven”, as heaven and the kingdom of God is found wherever God dwells and he dwells within the heart and mind of the believer. (Matthew 5:5),(Psalm 37:11).
Many have fallen prey to the fly away doctrine (rapture theory) but what 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 is telling us is Christ has returned and has brought with him a cloud of witnesses of people who have previously died as his believers. When we take the word back to the greek the word AIR is the breath of life. So when we read 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17 we read that at the last trump (7th trump) For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Those who died in Christ will rise first and we who are alive will REMAIN (not leave) and will be caught up with them (the clouds) (cloud of witnesses) and will meet the Lord in the air (In the Spirit-breath of life). So shall we ever be with the Lord. We read of this time of our change also in (1 Corinthians 15:50-58) as in a moment in the twinkling of an eye at the last trump (7th Trump) we shall be changed. But we will REMAIN here just as Revelation tells us the Kingdoms of this world have become the Kingdoms of our Lord and he will then reign for ever and ever! Revelation 11:15). Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
