What a blessing it was that Elijah had the Spirit of the living God dwelling within him, and when he asked Elisha what he could do for him that it was a double portion of the Spirit he asked for. (2 Kings 2:8-11). And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground. And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
Whatever is not gotten by what is called ill gotten gain (by thievery), but is honestly laboured for is a true gift from God and is a man’s portion in this life! (Ecclesiastes 5:18-20). Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart.
The greatest portion anyone has ever been given is the one that was given to our Lord and Saviour. (Isaiah 53:12). Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
