” His Servant “

Jesus lovingly tells us those who do His commandments and love one another that we are considered His friends and He has chosen us to bring forth fruit, but by not doing as the world does we will be hated for His name sake. (John 15:12-19).  This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.  Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.  Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.  Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.  These things I command you, that ye love one another.  If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.  If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

Jacob/Israel is a chosen and peculiar treasure chosen by the Lord, and we are servants of the Lord who above all gods that are in the earth. (Psalm 135:1-5).  Praise ye the Lord. Praise ye the name of the Lord; praise him, O ye servants of the Lord.  Ye that stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God.  Praise the Lord; for the Lord is good: sing praises unto his name; for it is pleasant.  For the Lord hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure.  For I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.

Martha and Mary are the perfect example given of what is truly important, as we see Martha so overtaken in the task of getting everything just right, while Mary chose to sit at the feet of Jesus to hear His word! (Luke 10:38-42).  Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.  And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.  But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.  And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:  But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Psalm 100:2-3

Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.  Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
